Over the last four months, I have had the distinct joy of watching our newest little man grow and change. In what seems like the blink of an eye, he has gone from that newborn with the vacant stare and limp noodle physique to a squirming, drooling, back scooting ball of curiosity and wonder. And for me, it feels like it all happened overnight. Yet, day by day, this baby’s brain was making new connections, and giving his muscles and organs new instructions that have led to today’s achievements.
And yes, they are achievements. I’ve realized that in the grand scheme of things, he may not be walking, and talking and making executive decisions full of toddler logic like his almost 4 year old big brother. Yet, each tiny glimmer of progress, so small you might miss it if you blink too long, is a step towards those more easily recognizable goals.
And so I will take my cue from my littlest miracle. Today, I will start over, choosing to appreciate and celebrate small moments of progress, and not beating myself up when I haven’t run a mile in a minute. Because as my little four month old is teaching me, every part of this journey counts. Each tiny milestone brings us one step closer to major fulfillment.
And for today, that is enough.
