There is a song from Elevation Worship that I recently fell in love with called First and Only. Among the lyrics is heard a heart’s cry for more of God, desiring to draw close to Him once again. My favorite part of the song simply says:
“Be my heart’s obsession,
First and Only in my life.
In Your love alone my soul is satisfied.”
The path that lead to this journey of getting rid of the clutter, and putting what remains in the “right” order, was forged by desperate moments of introspection and prayer where I felt that I had lost sight of my mission. My priorities were getting mixed up and my heart seemed to be splitting into pieces, like glass on the verge of shattering.
I will share more over the next few days about this place of “disordered loves” as I would learn from my ongoing reading of You Are What You Love by James K. A. Smith. However, I would like to leave you with this…
If you have somehow arrived at a place where all of life seems out of sync, in need of serious alignment, causing you pain, discomfort, to the point of even paralyzing all movement, then it’s time to declutter. It’s time to put things in the right order, whatever that looks like for you.
