“…. But David strengthened himself in the Lord his God.”
As 2017 races towards its end, I’ve noticed that I have been growing impatient to get through these last two months of the year.
This has been one of the most overwhelming, stretching, capacity-building, productive, heartbreaking, refining, revealing, healing, surprising, clarifying, pruning-filled years of my life. I’ve experienced my most magnificent mountaintop moments to date, and survived the darkest valley I’ve encountered so far on my life’s journey. I know for a fact that in this one year alone, I have come a very long way, in my health, emotions, relationships, overall sense of well-being, and in terms of living out my purpose. By God’s grace, I have experienced victory over my own fears and insecurities in ways that I am sure will continue to blow my mind in years to come!
Yet somehow, as we approach the finale of 2017, I’ve started to experience a feeling I like to call “last six syndrome”. I don’t know about you, but there is a point I reach when I’m on the treadmill, or doing a particularly repetitious exercise or task, right around the last six minutes or last six reps, where some part of my brain starts to say “You’re pretty much done. You could just stop now”. That last 6 minutes of an intense workout or even a timed exam, either seems like an eternity or a frantic fight to the finish line. This is also the point where I either find excuses to quit OR the resolve to power through to completion.
I’ve lived long enough to know that this is NOT the time to give up! If anything, this is the moment where you need to summon all the strength you can muster to press your way forward!
So in the spirit of summoning strength, encouragement and resolve I need to complete my 2017 goals, I’m taking the next 21 days to share my gratitude for where I’ve already been, and remind myself of where I am going.
I’d love for you to join me on this journey – comment, share, have real-life conversations, or get creative – but let’s find a way to fuel our fire and power though this last mile of 2017 by counting our blessings!
