“And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.”
In a day and time where entrepreneurship is “the movement” or the trend, we hear so much about “being your own boss”. I have felt my own momentary zaps of empowerment electricity as I go ahead and heart another Instagram post reminding me that I’ve got this!
For some, business ownership has become a badge of honor to be worn with pride, a pedestal to rest on while everyone else marches to the beat of an employer’s drum. It’s become a means to look down on others, especially if we don’t feel like the people around us value our products and services as much as we do. We spend so much time working on our brand, that at times we begin to neglect or forget our identity.
For those of us who say we are followers of Christ, it is especially important that we honor God, first and foremost in our business ventures. Colossians 3:12-14 reminds us that our best business – and life – suit consists of clothing ourselves in compassion, kindness, humility, meekness, patience, forgiveness — and over everything else — LOVE, which holds the whole get up together.
Colossians 3:17 serves as a relevant reminder that whether we own our own business and have employees working for us, or we show up faithfully to someone else’s workplace, we all report to One higher than ourselves – God. When our clients take us for granted or our managers overlook us, we can be confident that God sees our work, and knows our thoughts. We can offer up our work as an act of worship, glorifying God through our integrity and humility, even when our efforts are unseen by human eyes.
So let’s make those boss moves, while making the name of our Ultimate Boss great in the earth!
