40 Days Lighter – Day 10 (Late Night Update)

Aside from one meeting and a trip to the gym, today’s “decluttering action” was to simply be. I took a moment to appreciate my progress, and recognize the importance of celebrating change, even in small doses, even the baby steps.
I realize that this mission to declutter my life isn’t without hiccups and challenges. Like decluttering the toys in the living room, only to have another set magically appear with no idea where your children have been stashing them. Or planning date night only to have your plans thwarted by a little one who’s feeling a bit yucky.

But taking time to declutter my mind, pushing away the thoughts that try to creep in saying that “the change won’t last”, or that “I won’t make real progress”, is important to strengthening my resolve to keep moving forward. Celebrating the successes allows me to remember how I’ve reached this point, bringing me back to the One who has given me  the grace for this journey. I am reminded that I don’t walk this road alone.

I am reminded that this 40 day journey is not just about what these changes are doing to my body, my home or my schedule. The heart of this journey to a decluttered life is all about what the process, with God’s leading, is doing IN ME

So before I close my eyes to sleep, this is my prayer:

Lord, I pour out all of my “stuff” – my worries, cares, doubts and fears – before You. I let go of my insecurities and my pride. I release this heart that has been heavy, burdened down by “the weight and sin that clings so closely” (Hebrews 12:1 ESV). Instead I ask that you “Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me” (‭‭Psalms‬ ‭51:10‬ ‭ESV‬‬). Amen.
